*This is the second in a series of interviews of the candidates for Washoe County Sheriff.
Kim Meyer has called Washoe County home for the last 40 years. She began her work experience at the age of 11, working in her parents’ small local business. Then after graduating from Reno High School and the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice she was employed as a Deputy Sheriff with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 25 years.
She retired from the Sheriff’s Office in 2016 as the Sergeant over Crimes Against Children and Crimes Against Persons. Her career at the Sheriff’s Office was extensive and varied, working in Detention, Courts, Patrol, and Detectives. Kim believes her best work was as a Detective in Crimes Against Children and in the Regional Sex Offender Unit.
Kim currently volunteers with the Washoe County Child Advocacy Center and with the Urban Lotus Project, bringing yoga, mindfulness, and breath work to at risk and underserved youth in our community.
Kim has been married to Duane for the last 21 years and has two children, ages 16 and 14. Additionally, she is am an active member of the Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Community.
